All Good Things Must End

September 11, 2013

321 miles

We paused at the news this morning to remember the tragic events of 9/11.  It has been 12 years, but it is as clear as if it were yesterday. Never forget.

I jumped out of bed today to fit in a quick workout before launching into another session of Beach Yoga.  (Rich traded Yoga on the Beach for Lounging in the Bed).  The weather looked pretty threatening outside and Yoga was moved indoors into the Fitness Room.  Same awesome instructor – Susan.  She took us through some different moves today and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Afterwards, Rich and I met for our morning coffee ritual in the Living Room.

I hope I can figure out how this thing works.

Breakfast is served in our usual spot on the patio overlooking the pool and ocean.  It is a bit cooler today and feels great to sit outside.  I shamefully go for my same eggs bennie w/o sauce and Rich orders a regular two egg breakfast.  The morning slides by with newspapers and coffee.

We were offered a late (4pm) checkout and choose to linger a bit longer before we must hit the road.  We have about a 4 hour drive today to get to Fernandina Beach so we can’t linger too long.  We finally suck it up and pack it in.

I love this hotel!
I love this hotel! (Yes, Levi – I am wearing the ETF shirt!)

The ride to Fernandina is long and boring.  We backtrack up north on I95, make a quick stop at the grocery for dinner fixin’s and head directly to our condo at Amelia Landings.

Good grief! Which yogurt should I choose?

Home for the next few days.
Home for the next few days.

I found this condo on VRBO and we can tell it was a great choice from the moment we stepped in.  It is super clean, quiet and nicely decorated.  There are supplies (first aid, toiletries, spices, some food items, large dvd collection, books etc).  Many times when we have rented condos from owners, they are stripped down places where it is obvious they think you might steal something.  That is certainly not the case here – it is very welcoming and “homey.”

It is around 7pm by the time we arrive to the wooded area around our condo and the cicadas are out in full force.  They are so loud that it almost hurts your ears!  However, when we try to actually see one, they are completely hidden.  A neighbor tells us they will quiet down soon and are the loudest at dawn and dusk.

Dinner and a movie sounds about right for tonight.  I get busy preparing the pork chops that we purchased while Rich chooses a DVD for us.  It is always interesting to try and cook in a new kitchen.  This one is pretty good except for the fact that it has a flat range top and only one of the supplied pots has a flat bottom.  Hmmm
