Early morning in Butte. We have a tee time at a nearby golf course at 8:00 so we have to get moving. Lucky for me there is a Starbucks in Butte. Breakfast is grabbed on the go and we take off to Anaconda, MT to Old Works Golf Course.
Old Works is a beautiful course set in a valley situated around an old copper mine. The bunkers are black sand/rock and the scenery is lovely. We spotted a couple of woodchucks and some deer during our round.
We zipped around the course and then had a healthy 6 hour drive ahead of us. Lunch was my pick today and I found Steve’s Cafe in Helena Montana. Turned out to be a delicious choice. Even though it was after noon, we both ordered breakfast and devoured it.
The rest of the afternoon was spent driving all the way north through Montana to the Canadian border.
We continued through a bit of Glacier National Park and hit up some gorgeous scenery. Rich will actually be biking a bit of our route so we didn’t stop to take any photos this time around.
We finally made it to Pincher Creek and the little “Mom and Pop” Stardust Motel. Pickin’s are slim around these parts and the Stardust got great reviews on TripAdvisor. I knew we had found a gem when we pulled up and found this note on the office door:
Our room is cute, cozy and very clean. What more could we want? Dinner, maybe? Pickin’s for dinner are extremely limited. Much to Rich’s delight we decided to get a pizza and eat in our room while watching a movie. We found Antonio’s Pizza, put in an order, and ran out to find an ATM to get some Canadian cash. The owner of Antonio’s was a great, chatty guy and we jawed with him while waiting for our pizza.
Back at the room, Rich is in Heaven:
It is the least concession I can make for him – he has agreed to golf with me again tomorrow…
