94 miles to Sundre, then 60 miles to Rocky Mountain House
Nice late morning in Canmore. We stumble out to breakfast around 8:30 and are presented with a fantastic 3 course meal. Home made granola is the starter, then comes peaches with raspberry cream followed by an egg creation with mushrooms, potatoes, cheese and ham. It is a good thing we have a couple of hours before we have to swing a club.
We pack up, roll the bikes (Rich and Phil’s) to the car and prepare to leave. Our car has taken a beating during the night with an “ash-y” light rain.
After a short and very scenic drive we arrive in Sundre and the Sundre Golf Course. It is a beautiful tree-lined course. Rich says that this is my kind of course and he thinks he may struggle to hold on to his 3 hole lead.
Rich takes an early lead, but he soon runs into tree trouble and I surge ahead.
After several days of quite hot weather, today feels pretty chilly. It is about 65 degrees and breezy. This is more what we were expecting from Canada. Rich thinks this will be perfect bike riding weather and I think it will be great for my 2 weeks of golf.
We end our match with Linda 9 and Rich 5. Our running total as of today is now Linda up $1. We will see if I can hold on to my lead tomorrow.
After a short hour’s drive we make it to Rocky Mountain House, Canada and the Walking Eagle Inn. It is just ok – not great, but clean and quiet for tonight. Both of us are tired and decide to eat at the hotel’s restaurant – Grillers Steakhouse. (not really photo worthy…) We aren’t expecting much, but our steak dinners are actually very good and just as low-key as we wanted.
Tomorrow is our last day before we meet up with Phil and Jack in Edson. We will spend one night there and then it is off to Jasper where the boys will hop on their bikes and I will start my golf odyssey.
