We say our goodbyes to Jack and Fran and zoom down the coast to our old favorite – PGA National Golf Resort.
It is too early for check-in, so we go straight to the pro shop for our 11:00 tee time on the Squire Course. (Unfortunately, the only courses open during this week are the Squire, Palmer and Estates. The “Champion” course where the Honda classic is held is undergoing maintenance and the Fazio course is as well.)
A bit of time on the range and we are good to go. Due to all the recent rains, the Squire is quite “soupy” and is cart path only – tough in the heat and humidity. We get literally no roll on our shots. The ball hits and plugs. Very tough.
We are playing match play today and the competition is tight.
By the end of the round we are both whipped due to the heat/humidity combo. We drag ourselves into the familiar iBar and are looking to see if our buddy bartender, Mike, is there. He is not, but we found out that he is, indeed, still working at the iBar. Maybe we will see him tomorrow.
We shared the Artichoke/Spinach Dip and watched the Kavannaugh Hearings until our room was ready.
The room is great – on the 3rd floor with a view over the pool and lake. Since we are veterans here we know how to work this one. An ice bucket is procured from the bar and we use it to ice down a bottle of nice Cava that we brought from home specifically for a “balcony-sitting” moment. Then we convinced the bellboy to bring us a couple of champagne glasses. Pitiful.
After a long shower and an even longer nap, we move out to the balcony and enjoy the view.
Even though we have a couple of area restaurants that we absolutely love, neither of us feels like getting out tonight. We simply drop down to the iBar and share a delicious burger before calling it quits for the day.
Tomorrow will be an early morning. We have already decided that we must hit up the fitness center before breakfast. Then, we have a 9:00 tee time on the Palmer Course. Time to say goodnight from Palm Beach Gardens.
